Mike,
That was a very clear presentation, and the best I’ve seen or read about how to get your dog used to a muzzle. As with everything else in Foundation Training, you progress in small steps so the dog really does get used to wearing a muzzle and feels comfortable about it. Like you say, you have to be patient when doing this. It may take several weeks for some people/dogs, but it’s time well spent.

That was very clear and helpful. Thank you!

This was really helpful in getting my dog used to wearing a muzzle very quickly. It took only five short sessions over three days and we were out walking on the street with the muzzle on. I could not find any with the quick release snaps, only the leather straps that had to be buckled, which turned out to be the biggest obstacle to overcome with my dog because the smell of the leather aroused him. I did the practice sessions in front of the gate because he knows that means we are going out for a walk, so it was another positive association in addition to the treats.

My dog enjoyed the “party hat” training session we just had so much that afterward he ate his muzzle
